The Faces of Compassion Project is a global initiative to create and gather data about compassion in life.   We do this because positive psychology from images and words has a positive impact on our health.  Our data collection is  given by people, not harvested from the internet by an algorithm. We collect images of faces and activities in life from people who are devoted to or trained in compassion; whose lives or jobs are based on compassion; and from people who care.   If you'd like to participate, we invite you to get in touch.

The Science

Scientists at Stanford University and in Sweden have discovered that when we witness or express compassion it stimulates the creation of a neurohormone called oxytocin. And, its contagious!    Oxytocin has a positive impact on our entire body, speech and mind  - over 50% of our bodily functions (so far) through the neurohormone oxytocin.     We have made an educational film about this called "Oxytocin and Compassion."

Our Words

give witness to compassion.  Reading about compassion re-creates biological and psychological experiences of compassion.

I am growing collard greens for cancer patients

...

There is a fire burning within me to give people more equality, more love.

...

I give breakfast 2 days a week to homeless people.

About Our Project:

Thank for sharing your images of compassion with us. The data will be used to build a small data set in order to create a variety of applications for people to increase compassion in their lives. When you send an image, please be sure you are the owner and that it is ok with everyone in the image. It goes a long way to avoiding hurt feelings or loss of privacy later. We want to build a data set with integrity, which means we need all of you! If you have any questions about this project or the data, feel free to get in touch with me, Cindy Mason. cmason@cmason.us use the subject line: Faces of Compassion Project.

Heartfelt thanks to everyone for sharing data with us for this important project.
